  1. THREE things that don’t add up in this ad.#1 A perkins engine is a tough cookie. Rebuilding at 2000 hrs.just does not add up. #2 why call OKLAHOMA when the tractor is in E-TOWN KY.#3 a GENTELMAN farmer just what is that?

    • Inquiring minds! I live in Oklahoma, but the farm and equipment are back home in Kentucky.

A gentleman farmer is someone that farms mainly as a hobby.

A perkins engine is great indeed is designed such that the pistons melt down before any parts in the engine do. Therefore this minimizes damage. My dad got old and had to let a couple of people do things on the farm and use the tractor. Unfortunately, we think what happened, is one of them gave the tractor too much ether during a cold start. If you are a serious buyer, you can talk to the mechanic that did the rework. All papers and receipts are in the cab for the rework. Ether is quite commonly used on various tractors for cold starts, but you have to know what you are doing.

  2. WHAT HAPPENED TO REQUIRE A REBUILD AT 2000 HRS.??????

    • Hi-thanks for inquiring. My dad got old and had to let a couple of other people use the tractor and do some work on the farm, but neither of them was familiar with the tractor. It has a feature that uses ether for cold starts. We believe what happened is the person gave the tractor too much ether. The pistons melted! But at least on these good Perkins engines, they make the pistons out of a material that melts before main engine parts. If you are a serious buyer, I can let you talk to our mechanic. He saved all the receipts and paperwork and it is in the cab.

  3. THREE THINGS COME TO MIND FOR THE REBUILD!!!!!!! (NO OIL)—–(OVERHEATED) OR COME FROM FACTORY A LEMON .MAINTANCE MANAGER FOR A CONSTRUCTION CO.RUNNING PERKINS ENGINES WITH 8-10–13 thousand hrs. no problems.SO WHY THIS ONE AT TWO, PLEASE ANSWER.

  4. Don’t know if you can see the other answers on-line. I don’t normally use KY classifieds. But somebody gave the tractor too much ether during a cold start, is what we believed happened. This type of tractor uses ether as a feature for cold starting. My dad had to let a couple of people do some work for him on the farm with it and they weren’t familiar with the tractor. So the pistons melted. At least with these Perkins engines, they go, before major engine damage. All papers and receipts in the cab. You can talk with the mechanic if you are a serious buyer. Thank you.

  5. OK on what i’ve read. Engine started and the either mechanism stuck putting either in a running engine. Which over heated it which in fact melted pistons..Had to do it while running because if to much was applied before starting the starter would not have turned the engine over. It would have locked up.
